HAIR EXTENSIONS AFTERCARE

Maintain the fit and quality of your hair extensions by following these care tips

Washing

Wash your hair extensions infrequently to prevent fading and damage. When washing is necessary:

  • Only wash when there is a lot of product build-up.

  • Comb through your hair extensions with a wide-tooth comb prior to washing.

  • Use hair extension-specific products.

  • Avoid wetting the tracks where clips are attached to prevent issues like shedding, peeling, or snapping.

  • Apply a small amount of product to the mid-lengths and ends, avoiding the tracks.

  • Consider using conditioner instead of shampoo to maintain natural oils.

  • Thoroughly rinse to prevent product build-up.

  • After washing, apply a hair mask and gently comb through to restore natural oils.

  • Air dry to maintain quality and texture, avoiding towel-drying or blow-drying.

Additional Tips

  • Hang your hair extensions outside to air them out between washes.

  • Hair colour fading may vary due to hair porosity, which is natural and not a defect.

  • Occasionally use a clarifying shampoo to remove build-up and maintain manageability

Styling

Minimise heat styling to prevent damage and extend lifespan:

  • Avoid applying direct heat on the tracks.

  • Limit heat styling to 120°C using a heat-protectant formulated for human hair extensions.

  • Explore heat-free styling methods.

  • Take extra care of the ends, trimming regularly to maintain freshness and health.

  • Avoid using a radiator, which can damage and weaken hair extensions.

Brushing

  • Hold the hair extensions below the tracks and gently detangle from the ends upward.

  • Avoid brushing while attached to your hair to prevent damage.

  • Avoid aggressive brushing or brushing while wet.

  • Minimise static electricity by using boar-bristle brushes and wooden combs.

Products

Use gentle products formulated for human hair extensions. Minimise product usage to prevent build-up, avoiding hair spray and oils. Avoid products that can alter the pigment, such as sunscreens with Avobenzone, tanning products, and certain creams.

Colouring

Avoid altering the colour of your hair extensions. If you decide to colour against our advice:

  • Avoid colouring the tracks.

  • Rinse extensions to remove product barriers.

  • Avoid bleaching.

  • Test a patch first to check results.

Cutting

Split ends may develop naturally; trim the ends if necessary.

Storage

Store clean extensions in your Hair Extension Storage Bag with netting, away from direct sunlight.

Sleeping

Do not sleep with your hair extensions clipped in to prevent damage to your natural hair and scalp.

Swimming

Avoid exposing extensions to chlorine or saltwater to prevent degradation and shedding.

Weather

Hair extensions require more attention in warmer climates. Use a UV protection product and avoid extreme weather conditions to prevent frizz, tangling, and matting.
